Ashlee's Favorite Things

Meet Ashlee!
Another invaluable member of the Grandiflora staff.

Q: What do you do at Grandiflora?
A: I work as one of the cashiers here at Grandiflora and as the girls like to say, "One of the faces of Grandiflora!".  I do a lot at the front counter, but I also receive shipments and check product into our system as quickly as possible so our lovely display gals can get it out onto the floor for all of you to enjoy!

Q: What inspires you?
A: I am inspired by a mix of bohemian looks and very modern things, yet always with a retro twist. Also, whenever I put on our Thymes Agave Nectar scent, I literally feel invincible. I highly recommend it!

Q: How would you create a look with these items?
A: The look that I went for with these items is exactly the boho chic and modern retro. The shape of the candle holder, the colors, the floral print, and the gold feather necklace - it is the free bird, flower child look that I love.

I would also like to take this time to let you, our loyal customers, know that I will be leaving Grandiflora at the end of August. I'm a licensed cosmetologist and I've accepted a job offer down in Mt. Vernon. It's a really great opportunity to start my career and I'm excited about what's in store for me. That being said, it was not an easy decision to leave Grandiflora and the girls who have become family to me. I'm sure of most of you know, if you've had a chance to talk to any of us, we're a loving and tight knit group of gals. I'm so grateful to Trisha and LaVon for giving me this wonderful opportunity to work here. They couldn't have been more understanding in my decision to leave and honestly, you won't find a more caring and kindhearted duo than those two. Thank you to our customers that also made my time here what it was. I'm grateful to all of you who have brightened each one of my days at Grandiflora and it was my joy serving you behind the counter.

Colleen's Favorite Things

Meet Colleen!
Another invaluable member of the Grandiflora staff.

Q: What do you do at Grandiflora?
A: My official title at Grandiflora is "visual merchandiser". What that means is that I get to pull from all our inventory to create different displays throughout the store. This includes serene beachscapes, lush garden looks, industrial office or whimsical party.

Q: What inspires you?
A: As a wedding floral designer and business owner of Botanikal Design, I am greatly inspired by nature. I love different color combinations and unusual textures. I will often begin designing a display by creating a floral arrangement then pull pictures, furniture, clocks, and candles to compliment it.

Q: How would you create a look with these items?
A: I LOVE...

Texture! Iron orbs give a sense of 3D interest where tin ceiling tiles add variation in shape with a calm monotone pallet. I use these architectural pieces on my walls as art or on a mantel for depth. I am also an organizational nerd so to have numbered hooks gets me excited.

Decorative Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan! We have great consigners who bring in vintage pieces painted with the paint we sell. I love the rich curves, details and designs of old furniture updated with warm neutral gray and white.

Illume candles! Coconut Milk Mango in particular. With summer being my favorite season, this scent brings me to a warm sunny beach anytime of the year. It has a sweet, warm aroma without overpowering my senses.

If you have any questions about florals or displays while shopping in our store, Colleen is your go-to gal!

Stay tuned next week as we feature another employee and their favorite things!

Trisha's Favorite Things

The Grandiflora girls thought it was high time they took the opportunity to introduce themselves and their valued crew members too. How you ask? By having them describe what it is they do here in the shop and also what their current favorite items are! Sound like fun? We thought so too! Let's start with Trisha, one of the owners of Grandiflora.

Trisha Brink

Q: What is it you do at Grandiflora?  A: Well, many things of course...as a small business owner you need to be able to do anything from haul furniture to sign checks!

My main job is Buyer - I'm in charge of all the purchasing which happens here at Grandiflora. If we need it or want it I'm the girl for the job. I predict the newest trends and figure out what our customers might want. It can be a difficult thing to buy for women 20 years your junior or senior, but thankfully I like a lot of styles and with a degree in Interior Design, I'm armed for whatever style might come our way.

I'm also the girl who handles all the social media content. If you see something come to your inbox or social media I had something to do with it. Writing is something I love to do whether it be via blogging or through the advertising - I'm a happy camper plunked in front of a keyboard. (Which is why no one thinks I ever work here. I'm usually sitting behind closed doors.) Thankfully we recently hired a very capable assistant (Becca) who helps me in these endeavors!

Lastly (and most excitedly!) I'm in the middle of re-designing our online shop http://www.grandiflorahome.com! I'm so excited and can hardly contain my enthusiasm for what we're about to unleash to the entire U.S. VERY SOON! So, stay tuned for a whole new look and selection!

Q: What inspires you?A: I've recently been spending a lot of time with my European friends online via Pinterest exploring the whole Scandinavian black and white movement. I'm falling in love with the clean simple geometric lines and stark contrast like this arrow pillow from Cheryl at Happy Creations. On the other hand I'm really into warm wood tones with lots of plants. Throw in a bit of Southwest tribal feel and I'm hooked!

Q: How can these items be used in a home to create a look?A: I've actually started to implement some of this look into my own home! Creamy-white walls and trim, neutral floors with black wool carpeting. Plenty of natural elements like wood, baskets, antlers and skulls (Yep I heart taxidermy!). Add some plants in vintage macramé hangers and you'll have a more modern type of lodge. I don't go in for the fussy with this minimalist look. Being the Buyer here for the store I have to love EVERY style we sell, but some are my favorites. You can be sure it won't be long before I change my mind and move on the next new trend; I love change and that's why I love my job!

Stay tuned each week as we feature a new employee and their favorite things!
